Colorado's Weekend At NBNO

James Lee's 4:13.35 mile was one of two second-place finishes for Colorado at NBNO.

There were no first-pace finishes for Colorado at New Balance Nationals Outdoor, but there were a couple of outstanding seconds.

Anna Hall's heptathlon came up a scant 28 points short of first place. Despite winning the 800 in 2:21 and scoring 808 points in the event, Hall was unable to close the full measure of the gap built by Florida's Kaitlyn Kirby. And, it's worth noting that Hall was the lone sophomore in the field; all other competitors were juniors or seniors.

James Lee also came up big with a 4:13.35 for a second place in the championship mile. That whacks another second off of Lee's PR and further marks him as the probable favorite in the 1600 among 4A boys next spring.

Emily Sloan logged the next best finish from Colorado, claiming a third in the 100 hurdles at 13.54 (+1.9).

Denver South's 4x800 didn't manage a place that high, but they did manage a season-best time of 7:44.65. That would be good enough for seventh place in a very tough field. Moreover, it would have been a Colorado high school record if it had been run in-state and during the CHSAA-sanctioned season. And, hats off to that team for keeping things together so very well over the four weeks between State and NBNO!

Elsewhere in the land of PRs, Chris Theodore posted a PR mile in 4:22.82. That converts to about a 4:21 1600, making that a high-water mark for Theodore.
