Seven Events To Watch At The New England Meet

BOYS' 100m, 200m

The top seed in both these races is also the defending champion (two times in the longer event) - Weaver senior Mark Doyley. Doyley is the favorite to make it to the top of the podium twice on Saturday, but it certainly won't be easy. The All-American sprinter's best chance for gold is the 200m where he comes in with an all-time best of 21.14, a time he ran just a few days ago at the CIAC State Open. The meet record of 20.89 will be difficult, but Doyley could be pushed to "sub-21" with the talent he'll face on the line. Seven other speedsters that will answer the gun have seed times under 22 seconds, including recent MA champion Davonte Burnett (21.36) of Needham (21.36), Jevin Frett (21.51) of Manchester (CT), and RI state titlist Dametrius O'Connor (21.69). Also there's quality contenders like Ricky Francois (21.80) of Brighton (MA), Northampton (MA) senior Nikolas Smith (21.86),  Central (RI) senior Donatien Djero (21.98) and Pinkerton (NH) senior Jadyn Ruimjimk (21.98). In the 100m, expect a down-to-the-wire finish with a lean at the line determining the winner.  Doyley and Burnett own the top-seeded times of 10.63. There's also Johnson (10.72), Djero (10.75) and Milton (MA) sophomore Smith Charles (10.88) that could make this one interesting.
