Martin Blast 10:27 2M At South Shore Twilight!


She's primarily a middle-distance runner with a number of high-level performance in the 800- and 1,000 meter runs.

But on Saturday night the Newton South's Clare Martin proved that the longer distances could also be her forte.

Martin blasted the field in the two mile run at the South Shore Principals Twilight Meet with a nation best of 10 minutes, 27.73 seconds. The Newton South standout won by nearly 150 meters. Finishing second was Wellesley's Margaret Donahue, who crossed the line on 10:49.27, a time that ranks No. 3 in the state.

Burncoat's Rodney Agyare-May captured the 400m run in 49.37. Agyare May also turned in the fastest time in the 200m with a quick 22.26 in his preliminary heat. With the 400m and 200m finals back-to-back in the meet, he opted out of the 200m.

Hingham's Zoe Dainton cleared a state-leading 5 feet, 7 inches to win the girls' high jump.
