Agyare-May Highlights Coaches Invitational

Theo Burba's nation best in the 600-meter run was short-lived.

Just a day after the Newton North sophomore put himself at the top of the rankings, Rodney Agyare-May took it away. The Burncoat senior claimed the 600m title in the Small School division of the Coaches Invitational on Sunday with a nation-leading  and state record time of 1:18.75.  That's a clocking that ranks No. 2 all-time in New England and the No. 6 all-time in the U.S.

The meet also featured a record-breaking performance by Norton's Brooke-Lynn Williams in the 55m dash. Williams again flirted with a sub seven-second effort by winning her specialty with a time of 7.05. Milton's Smith Charles, last year's state champion as a ninth-grader, won the boys' 55m race with a season best of 6.47.

Old Rochester's Danny Renwick manufactured a superlative double by winning the high jump with a personal-best leap of 6 feet, 7 inches, a height that ranks No. 15 in the country and ties him with Nikolas Reardon of St. John Prep for the best in the state. Renwick also moved to No. 1 in the 55m hurdles with his first-place time of 7.74.

In one of the more exciting races of the afternoon, Benjamin Gordon Sniffen of Northampton edged Marblehead's Oliver Jacobs in the 1,000m with a time of 2:36.92, just .05 ahead of Jacobs.

Medway's Ava Vasile ran the state's second fastest time in the 300m dash with a winning 40.57. Nicholas Smith of Northampton just missed a meet mark in the boys' 300m with a state No. 2 of 35.03.

Isabelle Giordano clocked the Bay Sate's second best time in the 1,000m, breaking the tape in 2:59.93.
