Josh Hoey Upsets Principe, Wins New Balance Grand Prix Junior Mile in 4:09.26

Bishop Shanahan's Josh Hoey continues to dazzle.

The junior pulled off one of the year's biggest upsets, winning the junior boys' mile at the New Balance Grand Prix in a time of 4:09.26, beating Rhode Island standout DJ Principe. That time betters Hoey's own PA#1 time and moves him up to US#2 for the season, just behind Principe, who ran 4:00.97 at last week's New Balance Games at the Armory.

Principe led from the gun, but Hoey slowly hawked down the Stanford signee and passed him on the turn on the final lap. Hoey widened that gap and took the win. Principe clocked in at 4:12.34 for second. The raced aired live on NBC Sports.

Nick Dahl of Germantown Friends ran really well to take third in a time of 4:14.68. That is a PA#2 behind Hoey and a US#6.

On the girls' side, the pair of Pennsylvania entries went under five minutes in the junior mile. Germantown Academy's Abbe Goldstein placed second in a time of 4:53.17, just off her PR. Last year in this race, Goldstein was sixth in the field. Unionville's Anna Juul placed seventh in a time of 4:58.38.
