NB Grand Prix Junior Mile Boys' Preview

In last year's race, recent La Salle Academy grad and All-American Jack Salisbury won an exciting battle against former Concord-Carlisle standout Thomas Ratcliffe, taking the prize in the final few meters with his winning time of 4:08.33 to Ratcliffe's 4:08.74. La Salle should make it two titles in a row this weekend. Principe is the hottest distance runner in the country right now and the overwhelming favorite to take individual honors and challenge the current meet record of 4:07.30 by MIchael Coe in 2006. On New Year's Eve, he clocked the nation's fastest time for the mile with a 4:04.47 at a BU Mini Meet. Principe improved on that clocking significantly this past weekend at the New Balance Games where he came dangerously close to a sub 4 with his third-place time of 4:00.97 in an elite race.
