Records Fall At Freshmen-Sophomore Meet

Four records were broken Sunday at the annual Auerbach MSTCA Freshmen-Sophomore Large School Meet, held at the Reggie Lewis Center

The most impressive mark of the bunch occurred in the 600-meter run where Newton North sophomore Theo Burba won by more than three seconds with his time of 1 minute, 22.71 seconds. His effort breaks the old mark of 1:25.59 by Brookline's Matt Stewart in 2005. The record for 660 yards is by Woburn's Mike Meany in 1986, a mark that Burba ran faster en route to his win. His most recent clocking ranks No. 6 in the country, replacing his 1:22.76 effort from the  MSTCA Speed Classic on Dec. 30. Among sophomores, Burba still sits atop the national rankings. Sam Toolin of North Kingstown (RI) is at No. 2 with his 1:25.47 from Saturday's Rhody Track & Field Classic.
