Oram and Scott win Ghiloni Cup races

Ever since 2010, the three high schools in Marlborough hold an annual championship meet to determine which school has the best Cross Country team in the City.  Marlborough High School, The Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School and Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School are the three high school team.  The meet also features future XC talent, as three middle school compete, too (AMSA, Whitcomb and Immaculate Conception) The trophy that goes to the winning team has been dubbed the Ghiloni Cup, so-named because the meet is held in Marlborough's Ghiloni Park.  In the first six years of the races, the boy's and girl's cups have always stayed together.  Marlborough HS led the series with four wins; AMSA had two.

One of the the highlights of the 7th Annual Ghiloni Cup was the boy's varsity competition. The Cup has changed schools three times in three years, and like previous years, this year's race was going to be a close one. Brian Oram, one of the premier cross country runners in Central Massachusetts, was expected to win today, and he didn't disappoint anyone with a sterling victory from start to finish in a time of 16.22.1, finishing more than one minute ahead of the second place runner. With only a half mile to go, AMSA held the next three places, yet Yossef Naim came out of no where to catch two of AMSA's top runners to place third overall. Yet, despite Marlborough placing 1 and 3, AMSA's depth proved to be the deciding factor in the overall standing with seniors Zach Williams, Marcin Kierzenka and Ben Maron placing 2nd, 4th and 5th respectively to pace the AMSA Eagles.  In the end AMSA won the meet, scoring 25 points, to MHS's 32.
