Don't forget...Sunday's Doyle five-miler offering $1,000 to high school team!

For the second straight year, the Bobby Doyle Summer Classic in Narragansett, R.I., will graciously raffle off $1,000 to a high school team at this Sunday's race.

How does a team enter into the raffle? There’s only one way - just run!

Any school that has 15 or more of its athletes (boys and girls combined) compete in the five-miler is eligible for the raffle. This is just one more reason to enter this top-notch event that has already given more than $50,000 to enhance youth and high school running the last seven years.

This year’s Bobby Doyle Summer Classic, which also includes a 3K walk, is part of the USATF-NE Grand Prix series. Some of the best runners throughout the region will be competing for $7,000 in prize money.

Of note to coaches and their athletes, just like the 2014 event the five-mile race will have a mat at the 5K mark that will record all runner’s splits at that point - a great feature for anyone who wishes to utilize the race as a strong tempo run.

The online entry fee for high school athletes is just $20 before Aug. 7. The cost is $25 on race day. All participants receive an attractive Tech T-shirt and finisher’s medal. There will also be a post-race raffle (your race number is your ticket) and refreshments.

The Bobby Doyle Summer Classic was formed to honor one of the most prolific marathoners in the state, who died in December of 2007. The late Doyle was also a successful high school cross-country and track & field coach at Woonsocket.

The race starts and finishes at Narragansett Pier School.. Participants will answer the starter's gun at 9 a.m. To register for the Bobby Doyle Classic, just click here.
