Boston Herald: Lowell Runs Down Title

WRENTHAM — Going into yesterday’s Eastern Massachusetts Boys Cross Country Championships at Wrentham Developmental Center, all eyes were on the Division 1 race, in which defending champion Lowell and a surging Cambridge had many similarities.

“Our kids are the same makeup,” said Red Raiders coach Phil Maia. “We both have kids who are willing to put in the work and get the results.”

It was Lowell that got the results yesterday, placing four runners in the top 25 to squeak out the Div. 1 boys team title over the Falcons by one point, 80-81. It’s the Red Raiders’ fourth sectional title in five years. Xaverian’s Lucas Taxter led the way in the race, finishing in 15:23.
