Lexington Girls, Chelmsford Boys Capture Clipper Relays

 

On a scorching hot day at Maudsley State Park in Newburyport, the Massachusetts Invitational season got off to a fast start. The 15th Annual Clipper Relays had over 1400 competitors from 32 schools in attendance. In the girls race, the Lexington High School team of Olivia Manickas-Hill, Alex Wolf, and Hannah Born ran 36:21 for the six mile course. The Minutemen also had teams  finishing 10th, 20th, 27th, 28th, 36th, 49th, 56th, 63rd, and 81st. They finished 6th place in 2013. Beverly High School finished second place (36:40)  with a team of Abby Walsh, Julia Curtin, and Julianna Wesley. The Weymouth Wildcat's (36:48) team of Kelly Higgins, Kacie Higgins, and Ashley Betts rounded out the top three.

The Boys race had Lexington High school leading on the final exchange, but after the two mile loop was complete, the team from Chelmsford High school was victorious. Kevin Murphy, Brian Wilson, and Quinn Cooney ran 30:12,  six seconds ahead of the Lexington Minutemen. Peabody High School had a solid first leg from Marcello Rocha, but the Tanner Team ended up 38 seconds behind with a time of 30:50. The host team Newburyport had a strong last leg from Massachusetts State D2 Champion Nick Carleo, as he past 10 teams to bring his team back to fourth place.
