Tom Meagher: 'all about looking forward'

Tom Meagher’s turf is some of the most sought after real estate in the world of running.
For 17 years, the Duxbury resident has served as the finish line coordinator for the Boston Marathon. He’s in charge of the medals stand, the photo bridge, the escorts for the elite runners and the all-important finishing time clock. He’s responsible for anything inside the police barricades from Exeter to Dartmouth streets, lots of little details.
At last year’s marathon, Meagher’s day was winding down. He gave the announcer the names of a couple of runners to call when they crossed the finish line, and had just dealt with a request from a camera crew from a Vermont TV station hoping for a better shot of one of its staffers finishing the race.
“I took half a step forward, and then the bomb went off, Meagher said.
His next move was pure instinct. He went to help a runner who had been knocked down by force of the explosion.
